Over the weekend, Lee and I packed up the Jeep and headed down for what seems to be a once-a-year trip to Charleston. We did this same trip last year and it was just the best weekend away, so we drove down on Friday to enjoy the weather and shoot some spring content.
Our first stop was somewhere “new to us” in Charleston – Hampton Park. We were dodging rain drops, but the Spanish moss, white gazebo, and live oaks called our names so we braved the elements to capture the beauty of the park. Since I knew this park was going to be the first stop on our trip, I dressed comfy for the 3-hour road trip down from Greenville and had a nifty little outfit ready to be changed into in the backseat.
(And yes, I pulled off 3 outfit changes in the car during this trip. Blogger status – pro level.)
Just like I did with my winter wardrobe, I’m really trying to narrow down my spring clothing to find the pieces I love and will wear year after year. And this outfit is definitely a keeper. You all know I wear my Sezane Jack sneakers literally everywhere (which reminds I need to give them a good cleaning after this trip!) so it was easy for me to pair them with a denim skirt and pink top.
I don’t often love denim with pink – I’m more of a denim and white/ivory girl myself – but somehow this combo just worked.
Shirts that don’t wrinkle easily are my go-to for the warmer temps. I’ll always love linen but there’s nothing more frustrating than ironing a shirt and it wrinkling .10 seconds later in the South Carolina humidity, so it’ll be silk/silk-like fabrics for me this summer. And this Vero Moda top is perfect for pretty much any occasion. Dress it up for a business meeting and pair it with shorts for a weekend look.
And truly, there’s no better item to keep in your closet than a denim skirt. Go ahead and donate those mini and floor length denim numbers – but a classic mid-thigh or top of knee denim skirt is a keeper. This one from Calvin Klein is pretty much perfect for this 5-foot girl.
But surprisingly it does run small so size up if you’re looking.
To top it all off I added two of my favorite accessories for the season – a mini bag (my words, not fashion’s) and a silk scarf. I would say both are versatile, but if I’m honest the bag is pretty small.
Maybe that’s just because I carry a backpack wherever I go.
If you’re interested, it’s the Adele crossbody from Melie Bianco .The brand was new to me too, but the more I looked into it, the more impressed I was. They pride themselves on affordable luxury and although the products are made overseas they don’t turn a blind eye but instead personally know the people who make their products in a sweatshop free environment.
Not a bad mission statement for a beautiful end product. And PS – if you’re looking for a beautiful new bag, they’re so kind to offer 50% your first purchase with the code NEW50.
