Keeping You and Your Home Safe with Onelink by First Alert

If you’ve been keeping up with recent blog posts, you know that Lee and I moved into our reno house a couple weeks ago and since then have kept chugging along on projects. One of the first items I wanted to get settled was a few safety features that will give us peace of mind while at work or out of town.

The previous homeowners had smoke detectors that left with them, so I knew purchasing good quality smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors was going to be high on the priority list. As a new homeowner, I honestly can’t think of anything worse than coming home to a fire or being in danger of invisible carbon monoxide gasses.

We’ve had our Onelink Smart Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm and Onelink Safe & Sound devices for a couple weeks now and because safety first should be the anthem of every homeowner, I want to break down a few of the reasons these are the perfect solution for every homeowner.

Thank you Onelink by First Alert for sponsoring this post. A smart home should start with smart protection and Onelink by First Alert welcomes you to a smarter, safer home.

So I had the opportunity to review two different products for this campaign and I want to share the benefits of both in case you’re weighing your options.

Let’s talk about the Onelink Smart Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm first. This is your classic smoke and carbon monoxide alarm with some really awesome features, like being a smart home enabled machine.

It comes in both a wired and battery-operated version and if you’re not sure the difference check your current smoke detector for wires that run up through the ceiling. If you see them, you can go for the wired version, if not the battery operated device is for you! We got a wired device but it thankfully comes with a battery backup in case the power goes out.

A quick test before install got it fired up for us and let us know right off the bat that there was 0% carbon monoxide in our home and no smoke or fire.

Unlike traditional smoke detectors that just sounds an alarm, the Onelink system will actually notify you of the issue detected via voice alert (i.e. “there’s smoke in the kitchen”). Hopefully I’ll never have to hear that notification but I feel like it would be much more helpful than just an alarm sounding.

It also comes with an app that will send you a notification if you’re out of town or away from the house with the option to immediately call 911 and silence the alarm from your phone.

The second version is a bit fancier but literally one of the coolest tech pieces we now own. It’s the Onelink Safe & Sound device that has the same capabilities as the Onelink Smart Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm but also has a built-in speaker and Amazon Alexa capabilities.

I’m not a techy person but even I can tell that the built-in speaker is really good quality and the Alexa capabilities are quickly becoming part of my everyday routine.

I’m all for products multi-tasking for me and because our kitchen/living room/dining are all open now, having a speaker essentially built into our ceiling is a game changer. For this product we also received the wired version because we had previously wired smoke detectors in house.

A couple things to note about the product:

* It comes in both a battery and wired version.

* When installing the product, it should not be placed in the kitchen

* For the battery version (if installed on the wall), it should be no further than 12 inches from the ceiling

* The Onelink Safe & Sound product should be installed on the ceiling only

I’ll be the first to admit that working on creating a totally smart home may be one of the most addicting and satisfying tasks as a new homeowner. Because our Onelink Smart Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm and Onelink Safe & Sound devices are both smart devices, there’s no chance of us ever going back to the basics now!
