While neutrals compose 90% of my wardrobe, I do like to branch out with some flashes of color: blush pink, olive green, light blue, terra cotta are, in my opinion, neutral adjacent. They compliment light wash denim, white, tan, and black incredibly well and for my skintone they're ultra flattering when I have a tan.
But today is all about olive. It's long been one of my favorite wearable colors starting back in high school when I realized jewel tones were more my color palette than the trendy neon yellows Aeropostale was selling. The dress in these photos, well it's been a staple in my closet for at least 6 years, very likely longer.
What to Pair Olive Green With
When you're not sure what to pair a new color with, try heading to interior design, nature, or even the color wheel for a bit of inspiration.
- Add some ivory and brown for a crisp, classic safari vibe.
- Pair it with the colors of the sunset – mustards and burnt oranges for a golden summer glow
- Style it with shades of tan and beige for soft Tuscan vibe
I personally think the color looks best in less structured pieces of clothing: think a draping dress, chiffon layers, and lightweight linen. Olive always reminds me of late summer evenings and rolling summer meadows so I think subconsciously I look for fabrics and pieces that are flowing and easy.
